As with any treatment there can be expected and unexpected side effects. With CPAP patients may complain that the mask doesn’t fit right or they can’t sleep with the device on all night long. Others have issues with mask leakage and air blowing in their eyes and some patients complain that they constantly have a dry mouth.
With an oral appliance there are several potential side effects that can result. Most if not all are simply reversible. Patients may experience a change in their bite, TMJ pain and clicking, Facial and temporal discomfort, Headaches, Dry mouth or excessive salivation. All of these potential issues and their remedies will be discussed with you prior to the delivery of the appliance.
